Did you know that Rheumatoid arthritis can affect your hearing health?   According to a recent study released by The Open Rheumatology Journal, “Sensorineural hearing loss is the most common type of related health issue in rheumatoid arthritis patients.”  Sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) occurs when there is damage to the inner ear (cochlea), or to the nerve pathways from the inner ear to the brain. It is the most common type of permanent hearing loss. Most of the time, SNHL can’t be medically or surgically corrected.

The report goes on to discuss options for what can be done to help prevent this hearing loss.  The most important thing you can do is get a hearing health professional involved.  If you are concerned that Rheumatoid arthritis may be affecting your hearing, then now is the time to take action.
