We have written before on how hearing loss can lead to additional stress on the brain and how this stress can  lead to multiple cognitive disorders.  Well, there is another compelling reason why making sure our hearing is at the top of its game. A study published by HealthAffairs.org shows that mental disorders are the most costly condition in the United States. 
 
“A look ahead suggests that reductions in deaths from heart conditions and cerebrovascular disease are likely to drive spending on mental disorders even higher, as more people survive to older ages – when mental disorders, such as dementia, become more prevalent,”

There are many things that can be done to help keep your mind sharp, including staying socially engaged through healthy hearing. When it comes to hearing loss, the most important thing you can do is see a hearing care professional to help you stay connected to the world around you, preventing isolation and keeping the mind strong.
