The 4th of July is just around the corner, and with it comes fantastic firework displays.  Whether you are planning on seeing a grand performance at the park or you have got a nifty little firework collection to set off with your family, it is important to remember safety when it comes to your hearing.  ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) has an excellent list of things to do to make sure you don’t accidentally cause any permanent hearing damage, including:
  • Keep a safe distance
  • Wear earplugs
  • Know your limits
  • Be sure to see a professional if you feel your hearing has been affected in any way
Let’s all enjoy the celebration – picnics, parades, barbeques, and even fireworks – but please take precautions to protect you hearing as you celebrate, and pack some ear plugs for the fireworks show.  Having them on hand at the parade is not a bad idea either.  Have a safe and happy 4th of July!
